This project aims to focus on the problems and potential of Heping Island in Keelung City, which is suffering from such urban decay despite its picturesque environment, historical significance, and proximity to a major container port.

In order to address this problem, we will critically explore this theme and develop a deeper understanding of the natural resources, manufactured goods, infrastructure networks, and natural climatic elements that are found in the increasingly post-industrial landscape of Taiwan and define what are the inputs and outputs of these industries.

Topics curated by our studio members include energy and waste, food and water, fisheries, geology and climate, history, port infrastructure, shipbuilding, and transport and population.

My research topic is the shipbuilding industry of Heping Island. In the beginning, I went from the global top-down to Taiwan to find out the role of shipbuilding on Heping Island. CSBS is the largest shipbuilding company in Taiwan. There are two factories in Taiwan, one is on Heping island and the other is located in Kaohsiung city.

Through the shipbuilding process, it is analyzed why a shipyard is set up on Peace Island and what kind of special solutions meet the shipbuilding needs.

This is the layout of the two factories, the purpose here is to see if CSBC can move all operations to Kaohsiung.

Few archaeological papers show a heritage among the ruins under the pier, that of Fort San Salvador. Therefore, we can provide architectural/urban strategies combined with Peace Island shipbuilding and archaeology.
